After entertaining the audience with a romantic love story “Geetha Govindam”, Vijay Deverakonda is back as the “Taxiwala”, a thrilling entertainer. VD along with Babai Madhu Nandan and ‘Hollywood’ take center stage in this science fiction entertainer. Let's dive in to see if it is worth a watch.
Shiva (Vijay) is a taxi driver who's first ride is Anusha (Priyanka) where the hero falls for the heroine. All of a sudden, Shiva realizes there's a supernatural influence on his car and thinks the car is under something supernatural. During the course of time, Shiva observes a unexpected behavior by the car and thinks that it is possessed by some evil spirit. What exactly is the supernatural influence on the the car and why is the weird stuff happening to his car and the reason behind it forms the rest of the story.
Vijay as Shiva has carried the movie over his shoulders as he ususally does. He is an amazing actor and he proves it yet again. Priyanka Jawalkar as Anusha is cute and gives a decent performance. She brings a fresh look to the screen. Shiva, Babai and Hollywood are the torch bearers of the movie. Hollywood’s comedy timing in the burglary scene and mortuary scene are hilarious and I feel that he has a long way to go. Malvika Nair as Sisira is the heart of the science fiction part of the movie. I am not going to reveal anything about what the theory behind the fiction part as I feel that it has to be experienced on screen. Other actors like Ravi Kishore as Brother, Kaveri as Vadina, Chammak Chandra as Fakir/Security have done a decent job. Ravi Verma as the Pyschologist has done justice to his role.
The movie starts with his car and the supernatural theory behind it and maintains the suspense throughout the first half. ‘Maate Vinadhuga’ is a refreshing song which shows a love story blossoming between Shiva and Anusha. The first half pretty much deals with the car and discovering it's supernatural angle. The director just builds a basis for the second half well in the first half. Whereas the second half introduces the concept of astral projection which is the reasoning behind the supernatural things happening with the car. I don't want to reveal anything behind what's happening behind which scene and why.
Rahul Sankrityan’s direction and narration are good. The graphics involving the scientific angle are decent. The movie is kind of lagged towards the end. The screenplay has been handled well. The way he takes the genre from a supernatural happening to a science fiction thriller is good. On a whole, Taxiwaala makes a one time watch over Amar Akbar Anthony.
