We all know how much of a celebrated actor Mahesh babu Ghattamaneni is among the Tollywood circles. His fans go gaga on social media when it’s time for the release of his film. I have seen the magnitude of the euphoria in twitter and every tollywood movie blog there is building up the hype for the man’s 25th stinct as a hero in the industry Maharshi. Let’s dive in to see what kind of a movie did this first Mahesh-Vamsi combo give us.
Rishi kumar is a middleclass man who wants to win it big in his life and keeps running behind success fearing failure. He meets Ravi and Pooja during his Mtech in IIET. Three of them become best friends. Pooja gets attracted to the geek Rishi who seems to know everything about everything and Ravi takes inspiration from this same geek. In the process Pooja falls in love with Rishi but Rishi has different goals in his life and ends their relation. While every student goes to an interview with companies during the placements in college, Rishi offers the company an artificial intelligence software and eventually becomes the CEO of the same company Origin. In all this success and winning, what happens to his friend Ravi? Will the friends re-unite? And what happens to the relationship between Pooja and Rishi? What does success do to Rishi? All these aspects form the story of Maharshi.
Mahesh babu as Rishi Kumar is outstanding and no one can do better in the role of Rishi than the man himself. His 25th is indeed a feast to his fans as promised. In three different shades, Mahesh was nothing short of magical. The college scenes where he brings the humor out is a feast to his fans. Pooja Hegde does a good job as the leading actress. Her dubbing reminds us of Shruti Hassan from Srimanthudu. Allari Naresh as Ravi is the best character in the movie at par with Mahesh as Rishi. Vamsi Paidipalli portrays Allari Naresh as a farmer's son and proves that he is an actor with true potential not just in comedy roles but in a character oriented role as well. Jagapati babu's character as antagonist lacks the meat. Jayasudha's was impressive and Prakash Raj was his usual self. Sai Kumar gets a good little role while Prithvi as a journalist brings a few laughs. Vennela Kishore gets a very small role and he doesn't have much to perform.
The movie starts on an out and out commercial note with Rishi ruling the Corporate industry as a CEO of the top most company in the world and quickly takes us to the college background showing us the Mtech days of Rishi with Pooja and Ravi. Mahesh babu's attitude during this phase is a feast to his fans. This entire phase of building the friendship between the lead characters and the way the hero flirts with all the girls in college is very well handled by the director. There is good humor in all the scenes till then and all the college fun ends on an emotional note.
While the entire first half runs as a jolly ride, the second half is true heart of the story setup in the backdrop of a village called Ramavaram and has an emotional path throughout with some good scenes to connect with the audience. The village fight in the middle is outstanding increasing the tempo of the narration. The best thing about Vamsi Paidipally's story-telling is that the characters travel through the movie and just don't come and go for a one-off scene. In this movie, we have the old age farmer, the kid with the whistle characters are heart touching. Also, there is a frame where Mahesh stops his bodyguard and he himself opens the car door for his mom. Vamsi Paidipalli specializes in showing these.
At some point, yes, we do get the feels of Srimanthudu and Bharat Ane nenu but trust me this movie doesn't emulate them. The music from DSP did not connect with the audience before the movie but they surely get justice on the silver screen. The background score from DSP is at it's usual best. The cinematography from K.U.Mohanan is outstanding. He captures the beauty of every single frame and I'm now sure about why he is considered as one of the best in the business. On a whole, Maharshi is another classic commercial entertainer from Mahesh Babu where we can see three different shades from the big man.
