Wanting to make this movie on an international scale, it fails to please atleast the local audience.
Rating : 2/5
Tagline : Too much action, too little substance
Okay, so post Baahubali everyone has been waiting so eagerly for a Prabhas movie and the wait is finally over. Prabhas has teamed up with sort of a rookie Director still finding feet in Tollywood, Sujeeth for yet another magnanimous project Saaho. The trailer looked outstanding with all the action packed sequences and great camaraderie between the lead pair Prabhas and Shraddha.
Ashok/Saaho (Prabhas) is an undercover cop in the city of Mumbai who works with Amrutha (Shradha) on a secret mission. Elsewhere in the world, in the city of Waaji a mafia gang is led by Roy (Jackie Shroff) who gets killed when he comes to Mumbai on a mission. It is taken over by Vishwa who’s the son of Roy. All of the money that belongs to Roy and his gang is stored in a vault which can be unlocked only with the help of a Black box. Saaho is the story of the fight between everyone who wants access to the vault in order to get the money inside it. Who succeeds and what happens forms the storyline.
Prabhas in the role of Siddarth Nandan Saaho looked stylish but in many scenes his face looked artificial with the makeup. Also he surely missed the charm he had in Baahubali. Shraddha Kapoor as Amrutha was impressive in her telugu debut. She had an extensive role but the movie pace slows down when she’s on screen. Murali sharma was okay and Vennela Kishore brings a few laughs in the first half. All the other star studded bollywood villains were passable. Neil Nitin Mukesh acting was good.
The movie starts on a stylish note with the introduction of Roy and his gang. There are way too many characters throughout the movie against one’s liking. The first half revolves around the cops trying to find the robber who’s trying to steal the blackbox which is required to open a vault. There’s some humor shown when Vennela Kishore is on the screen. The movie pace completely slows down when Shradha kapoor is on screen. The love story doesn’t make any impact with all the violence going on in parallel. The dubbing looked off in so many scenes even when Prabhas was talking.
The first half ends with a twist which is okayish. The second half is when the actual trouble starts. One can imagine how the budget of shot up to 350 crores with such overboard action sequences in the second half which hardly impresses. There is not one scene which sticks in your mind and makes an impact in the audience. If you watch the movie closely, there are a 1000 scenes where Prabhas could be shot with all the shooting targeted towards and he never takes the hit. Being a hero, that is sort of expected but there’s literally no scene where the hero fears a bullet. The climax has a twist which gets kind of predictable halfway through second half.
The movie went completely wrong with the way it was directed. The narration never had a flow on it with the switching between violence and love story. The pace of the movie is too bumpy and the screenplay is completey clumsy especially in the second half. The production values were rich but the vfx wasn’t that impressive. There are scenes where Prabhas freely falls from mountains and buildings like a super hero which is hard to digest. The Saiyyan Psycho song is a catchy number with some nice moves. The music of the movie is just average. The background score was good at some places and at some places it was awful and had no relation to what’s happening on screen. There’s literally no saving grace to the movie given the immature direction of Sujeeth even with a hero of Prabhas’ stature. Watch the movie at your own risk.
