Savyasachi has been making quite a buzz in the Tollywood circles for the unique concept they have showcased in the trailer. Naga Chaitanya teaming up with his Premam director Chandoo Mondeti is another factor which might pull the crowd. But the biggest crowd magnet would definitely be Madhavan's re-entry to a straight Tollywood movie. Let’s see if all these X factors work some magic.
Vikram Aaditya(Naga Chaitanya) who is an Ad film director is the victim of a Vanishing Twin Syndrome where his left hand is controlled by the vanished twin Aaditya. He falls in love with Chitra(Nidhi Agarwal) during college but leaves her for some reason and meets her again after six years and they get back together. A devastation strikes Vikram’s family when he returns from a foreign shoot. Vikram doesn’t understand why there’s harm for people around him which is caused by Arun. Why is Arun targeting Vikram and family? What is the connection and how does Vikram succeed with the help of Aaditya forms the story of Savyasachi.
Naga Chaitanya as Vikram Aditya gives a decent performance and maintains his toned look from Sailaja Reddy Alludu. Nidhi agarwal as Chitra looks strictly ordinary. Madhavan as Arun packs a punch and shows that his charm is intact even after all these years. His role is absolutely the highlight to this movie. Vennela Kishore, Jabardash fame Satya and Shankar bring in few laughs in the first half and in the Subhadra Parinayam in second half. Tagubothu Ramesh was passable. Bhumika has nothing special to play.
A concept like Savyasachi has such a huge potential to make an amazing movie. But the director doesn’t dig deep into the concept rather wastes the entire first half on a petty love story and introduces the conflict point only at the end of the half. But by that time, the audience already lose the interest. The screen time given for the love story was way too much and it has no impact on the main plot of the movie which is a major drawback.
The second half is where Madhavan enters the story and the actual plot of the movie starts then. It comprises of the cat and mouse game between Madhavan and Naga Chaitanya much like Mahesh babu and SJ Surya in Spyder. The “Subhadra Parinayam” episode in the middle disturbs the serious tempo of the second half but is absolutely hilarious. The climax then gets predictable again.
The narration of the movie is what made Savyasachi an average film. If the plot was correctly used, it would have worked magic with the uniqueness of Vanishing twin syndrome concept. The cinematography was okay and the production values were good. The graphics in between were unrealistic. Music was below average except for the title song. Overall, the movie could have been way better than it turned out had it been handled well.
