Riding high on his stardom, Vijay Devarakonda teams up with the family man Parasuram for "Geeta Govindam". The first look, teaser, trailer and Vijay Devarakonda's unique way of promotions caught the eyeballs of all the movie lovers. Let's see how the movie turns out.
Vijay Govind (Vijay Devarakonda) hails from Kakinada village and works as a Physics professor in a college whereas Geeta (Rashmika Mandana) is an IT employee. Vijay is a man of family values and dreams about his life after marriage all the time. In the process, he meets Geeta and decides that she is going to be his wife. They unexpectedly sit next to each other in a bus ride during which the hero messes things up with the heroine. Unfortunately, Geeta's brother and Govind's sister are supposed to be married soon much to the bad luck of the hero. How does Govind convince Geeta that he is not a flirt as she thinks he is and not cause a problem to his sister's marriage and in the process make Geeta fall in love with him forms the story.
Vijay Devarakonda as a versatile actor proves his acting skills in a completely different characterization after Arjun Reddy and carries the entire movie on his shoulders. He is the only and major plus of the movie. Rashmika Mandanna, to be fair has been good in Chalo compared to this movie. She's grown more chubby but still suits the character of Geeta. She needs to work on her acting in emotional scenes. Subbaraju as Govind's bava gives a good performance. Rahul Ramakrishna was impressive with his comedy and so was Vennela Kishore. Nagababu did not have much to do as the hero father. The other characters did not have much to showcase.
The movie starts on a very slow pace showing how much the hero gives values to family and dreams about life after marriage much like what Nara Rohit does in the Solo movie. We can see from the trailer that the movie has abundant comedy and Geeta Govindam does have enough scenes to make the audience laugh out loud. But director Parasuram fails miserably in choosing a good conflict point in the movie. The scene where the hero messes things with the heroine in the first half is the conflict point which is very very silly. The entire movie revolves around the scene which is hard to digest.
It is so tough to impress the audience in a completely different character coming out of the skin of a character like Arjun Reddy and Vijay Devarakonda does just that. He is amazing with all the "Madam, madam please madam" dialogues. But there soooo many scenes in which the lip sync was completely missing. Not just for the hero, it happened to almost all the characters in the movie. Probably the dialogue where altered after the scenes were shot. But it certainly did not look good.
Coming to the second half, we already know what is going to happen and the screenplay gets very predictable. Getting to know the true colors of the hero, one would think the heroine might get a positive opinion on the hero but she altogether starts loving the hero which is a bit silly. When you think that it's all over and we are going to have a simple ending, there is a little twist in the tale which increases the runtime of the movie and brings in Vennela Kishore into the fore. The comedy in the climax of Vennela Kishore brought in a few laughs but the way the hero convinces the heroine to marry him gets silly.
Geeta Govindam is just a passable love story with abundant laughs and a silly plot. If you have nothing else to do on your holiday, you can watch it but it is not worth making time for it.
