The movie addresses an issue faced by the current generation youth but not in a very convincing way.

It is a known fact that Sai Dharam Tej, who had a pretty good start to his career has hardly tasted any success in the recent past. This time he is teaming up with Kishore Tirumala whose last outing “Vunnadi Okate Zindagi” was a decent movie at the box office. Tej is highly banking on this project to renew his mark at the box office. Let’s see how this one turns up.
Vijay Krishna(Tej) is a talented engineer who has never tasted any success because people near him achieve something better than him. He falls in love with an innocent girl Lahari(Kalyani) who never takes a decision by herself but instead asks her friends for help. She instantly falls for him looking at the way he cares for her. Lahari, who hates alchohol addicts finds out Vijay is also an addict and that he works at a TV repair center. On Swecha(Nivetha)’s advice, she decides to leave Vijay. Vijay meanwhile keeps working on an accident detection project and faces competition against a big company who tries to steal his idea. What happens with his project? Will he succeed? Will Lahari be able to decide if she wants Vijay? All of this forms the story of Chitralahari.
Sai Dharam Tej as Vijay sports a good beard but that’s about it. His dialogue delivery lacks energy which suits his helpless character Vijay but takes out the one good thing about his acting, energy. He even looks super heavy in every frame. His action in the second half is commendable. Kalyani Priyadarshan as Lahari does well as an innocent young woman who cannot take her own decisions. Her dubbing is okay. Nivetha Pethuraj as Swecha does a decent job in a supporting role. Sunil as an alchohol partner to the hero gets a good extended role and does well. Posani as hero’s father has given his best. Vennela Kishore brings in good laughs in the second half.
The movie starts off on a good note with hero’s life story on how unsuccessful he has been in getting success but still has a supporting father. The director balances his story to taste success with a good little love story. In the later part of first half, the movie is mostly based on the love story moving away from the main plot. There are some good emotional scenes but that’s all which is there in the first half. Tha narration in the first half is very slow.
The second half starts with the post breakup scenes of Vijay. The main plot is concentrated better in the second half. A sequence between Vijay and his dad about the father son relationship is one of the highlights of the movie. The pace of the movie goes up and down which is a major negative in the first half is rectified in the second half. The movie addresses an issue faced by the current generation but not in a very convincing way.
The direction of the movie is really good at some places but is not completely convincing. The main plot and the love track doesn’t strike the right balance. The dialogues in the movie are very deep and well written. The cinematography is decent and the music is okay. Dsp gives a good background score. With a 2 hr 10 minute screenplay, the editing was done well but the movie still seems pretty slow. Overall, if you like slow movies there may be a possibility you might like this but it is definitely not a summer entertainer you expect from the outset.
