The movie Agent Sai Srinivas Athreya has hit the screens on June 21, 2019 and created quite a buzz. I wasn't really sure if the buzz is because there were hardly any good releases after Maharshi on May 9 or is the movie really worth all the hype. The promotions were quite funny though and the trailer was indeed impressive. So, let's find out how this detective fared out.
Agent Sai Srinivas Athreya (Naveen) is a middle class Sherlock Holmes in the town of Nellore just like Chiranjeevi in Chantabbay movie and has an assistant Sneha (Shruti Sharma). He calls his agency FBI (Fatima Bureau of Investigation). All they do everyday is watch detective movies together where Athreya describes Sneha how a detective should observe things because they hardly get any good detective cases. One day, the cops arrest Athreya since he was found near a dead body beside the railway tracks where he shares the jail cell with another inmate whose daughter is killed brutally by someone. Athreya takes this as a case and thinks this would change the fortune of his detective agency. What will happen after he takes up this case? How does his life take a complete U-turn post taking up this case? Who and why are they doing this forms the story of this movie.
Naveen Polishetty as Agent Sai Srinivasa Athreya is outstanding. He made a mark in the short character of Rakesh in Life is beautiful. With this film, he gets a full length character as the lead actor to which he does complete justice from the first to the last scene. His comedy timing is very impressive and his dialogue diction is very catchy. He has a very long future ahead in the industry. Shruti Sharma as Sneha does a decent job and gets a bigger runtime than any other telugu movie heroines. Chai Bisket fame Suhas and Sandeep do their jobs well. Other than that, there aren't any notable characters in the movie.
The movie starts with Agent Athreya describing all the minute details in anything he sees just like the fictional character Sherlock Holmes. The hero has carried the story on his shoulders from the start till the end. I don't think anyone could have done better than him for this role. But the director got the casting wrong in small roles like the hero's journalist friend and the cop who helps him. Both of them lacked any sort of expressions and the lip sync in some of the scenes was terrible.
The first half has more fun elements than the second half. The narration of the story was perfect as the director takes apt time for the lead actor to make a mark and then go into the main plot. The director does well at the end by connecting all the minor conversations in the film about the hero's mother and all the superstitious stuff followed by people today. The screenplay by Naveen and director swaroop was gripping. Although there aren't any songs in the movie, the background score by Mark K Robin is engaging. On the whole, this is a very refreshing thriller for the summer. Will definitely appeal the multiplex audience but not the audience in the B and C centers.
