After two back to back debacles at the box-office with "Lie" and "Chal Mohan Ranga", Nitiin changes his formula from choosing commercial entertainers to an out and out family entertainer teaming up with the director Satish Vegesna who tasted success last year with Shatamanam Bhavati. Let's dive in and see if Srinivasa Kalyanam is worth your time.
Srinivasa Kalyanam is the story of Vaasu(Nitiin) a civil engineer in Chandigarh and Sri (Raashi) who is an MBA grad from London learning to live life on her own in Chandigarh before joining her father RK(Prakash Raj)'s business. They fall in love after meeting in a due course. Vaasu has a big joint family in his hometown Sakhinetipalli (East Godavari) and respects the family values and the importance of marriage from his Grandmother (JayaSudha) at a young age. Sri comes from a business family where her father RK gives importance to Time in his life than any other values. With such contrasting families how will Vaasu and Sri get to marry forms the rest of the story.
Nitiin as Vaasu is passable. Acting in an out and out family drama filled with emotions is new to Nitiin and he tried his best. But I don't think acting in films like these comes natural to him. Everytime Nitiin comes on screen, he dialogues about values go on and on without break. Raashi Khanna as Sri gives a decent performance. Prakash Raj as RK is just like any regular father roles he gets in Dil Raju movies. But seeing him in these roles again and again is getting monotonous and irritating. Jayasudha as Vaasu's grandmother teaching family values and explaining marriage rituals is impressive. Nanditha Swetha as maradalu of Vaasu was a wrong choice in a village attire. Naresh, Aamani, Praveen, Satyam Rajesh, Vidyu Raman and everyone were their usual selves.
Right from the word go, Srinivasa Kalyanam looked completely artificial. Within 10 minutes from the start of the movie, you can see the age old screenplay of Flashback -> Family Scenes -> Present day hero entry -> A friendship scene to make the hero a good boy -> Hero entry song -> Meeting the heroine at the end of the song. This formula has been tested time and again in telugu cinema and people are fed up with it. The director's aim was to explain what modernization did to the traditional wedding but he completely failed in proving his point.
The production values of Dil Raju and the cinematography are the only positives of the movie. But, after seeing this movie one can sense that Dil Raju writes a cheque to anyone who comes to his office with a story involving family sentiment. The overdose of dialogues related to values of life, values of marriage and family values are the most irritating part. Yes, the movie is all about teaching values but for 2 and half hours people just can't sit there listening to them. It was literally a torture. The other worst part is background score gets elevated like a 100 times in the 150 minutes without absolutely any need of it. The music is just like any other Mickey J Meyer's album with bits and pieces of music mixed from all his previous albums.
Every frame of the movie felt artificial. The movie is expected to provide some entertainment besides the never ending values which was completely ignored by the director. There were people literally laughing in the theatres for sentimental scenes since the emotion or connection to characters throughout the movie is never felt. The dialogues of Nitiin in climax gets so dragged that you hardly care about the stuff he's saying. The extremely predictable screenplay, the never ending preaching of values, artificial narration make this movie unwatchable.
