Is it time for our directors to improvise the story or at least the scenes in a remake since most of our telugu audience are known to watch hit movies of other language with subtitles?

It's been more than a month since Telugu cinema industry had a big release and even before we start gearing up for Rangasthalam we have Nikhil's Kirrik Party hitting the silver screen. Let's see if the remake of the Kannada blockbuster "Kirrik Party" has lived up to it's expectations or our industry has got another dud. I have to putforth in advance that I did not like Kirrik Party even after watching it with subtitles since I did not like the comedy in Kannada flavor.
The movie starts off on a college backdrop reminding you of Nikhil's first movie Happy Days although he seems all grown up now. The story takes off with the "Dumdare" song depicting the friendships of an engineering college where the gang of the hero is introduced. Karthik (Nikhil) and his gang of 5 friends fall for our heroine of the first half Meera Joseph (Simran Pareenja) who's a senior in the college. I personally expected a lot of comedy in the first half after watching Kirrik Party. But it was more of a true translation from the Kannada movie and hence I was not impressed. How Karthik gets behind Meera and impresses her forms the core of the first half. The sequence where Karthik gets to know that Meera likes him and what happens next to Meera involves you seriously in the movie for the first time. What happens to Meera at the end half is the twist in the tale.
Three years, 6 Semesters and 9 backlogs later comes the second half which brings the bearded manly Krishna onto the fore reminding everyone of THE "Premam" look. How aggressive he gets post Meera is showcased in the second half and at the same time comes Satya (Samyuktha Hegde) who already has a huge crush on Krishna. In the meanwhile, Krishna stands for the President of the college against his best friend with whom he fights during the post Meera aggression. How does Krishna become the President and how Satya wins the love of Krishna? Will the friends reunite at the end?
Nikhil Siddharth's portrayal of Krishna looks scratchy. In the first half his comedy timing fails. His bearded look isn't mature enough for him to pull that off. But his emotions in a few scenes, especially in the pre-interval sequences were really good. He obviously worked hard for his body but the problem is that he worked only on the upper body and the director didn't shy away from showing Nikhil's tummy throughout the second half. The two debutant heroines did a decent job. The friends gang could have been better. Their lip sync in some of the scenes is missing. Brahmaji was okay. The mechanical professor brought a few laughs. The rest of them haven't got much to do. The songs are really the heart and soul of the movie.
Originally when I heard Nikhil is doing the remake of Kirrik party, I expected the first half to be so good with all the native comedy and it is no where close to being good. We did not have any familiar faces to connect with the comedy. As I mentioned earlier, native telugu comedy is what our audience connect with and that is completely missing in the movie.
There are so many uninteresting scenes in the movie that makes you want to bang your head to the hand rest. For example, the character of the senior in college with a grumpy hair is terrible. I don't understand why the directors add these kind of scenes just to increase the runtime of the movie. If it is not necessary, just don't have it in the movie. Period.
First half is completely filled with wayward comedy and the second half barely has any comedy except for the ragging scene. So, the balance is not quite there. Nevertheless, it is worth mentioning that Samyuktha has a refreshing face and is very good with her expressions. Her energy saves the second half.
Overall, If you are a mass audience, you probably might hate the movie. If you are class or family audience, you will not like the movie. If you are a student, it depends. If you already watched the Kannada version, you will definitely not like this.
