The style in Allu Arjun's action, the energy in his dialogues, the versatility in his fights and the grace in his dance moves is unmatched.

- Naa Peru Surya is one of the much awaited biggies of Tollywood this summer. The stylish star Allu Arjun teams up with the promising writer turned director Vakkantam Vamsi. We have seen how good Siva Koratala has been with his direction. Let's see if Vakkantam Vamsi is as good director as a writer he already is. This combination has come up with a patriotic action entertainer. Let's dive in to see how the movie turns out.
The hero Surya (Allu Arjun) is a soldier in the Indian Army who has anger management issues due to which he lost it all in his life including his candidature at the Army. His goal is to serve for the country at the border but for that to happen and to be back in the Army, he needs to get a signature from a world famous Psychologist Rama Krishna (Arjun) who is the long forgotten father of Surya. For giving the signature, Rama Krishna sets a condition to Surya that he should control his anger and not get into spats with anyone for 21 days. Will Surya be able to do that? How does he win back the love of his life Varsha (Anu Emmanuel)'s heart again after losing her to his anger ?
Allu Arjun has come a long way since Gangotri and has become a very natural actor. The style in his action, the energy in his dialogues, the versatility in his fights and the grace in his dance moves is unmatched. Since Iddarammayilatho, his action sequences have been terrific and nothing changes in this movie as well. He has given his heart and soul for this movie. His body looks solid and suits the character so well. Anu Emmanuel is okay as Varsha. She has put in a little bit of weight after Agnyatavaasi but looks cute and bubbly. Her character hasn't got anything meaty to perform. Arjun has got a good role and he is apt for the role. The characterization of Sharat Kumar is the weakest I've seen of him. Sai Kumar has a short role which was cake walk given his caliber. Boman Irani has a brief appearance and so does Rao Ramesh as godfather. Nadiya has a very little presence. Posani Krishna Murali is okay. Vennela Kishore is there to fill the comedy quotient and does well.
Vakkantam Vamsi is a terrific writer of Telugu cinema. But as a director he needs to be more careful and knowledgeable. The main plot of the story is very gripping. We haven't seen much of patriotic movies in Tollywood in the recent past. When a big star like Allu Arjun is doing it, it creates an impact in the audience and the expectations for the movie are going to be skyhigh. The movie's production values and cinematography are commendable. Allu Arjun's carefree action blends perfectly with Surya's role. The scenes of how Anwar gets impacted by the present society brings the best out of writer Vamsi.
Naa peru Surya is out and out written with the protagonist Allu Arjun in mind. Everything in the movie revolves around Surya that powerful actors like Arjun, Sharat Kumar and Nadiya are completely overshadowed. When we saw Upendra in Son of Satyamurthy, his role had a impact on the story and his screen presence was felt. You don't see that happening in this movie. That is a big backdrop. Except for the scenes where Arjun realizes how hard Surya is trying to be normal, there is no impact of any other characters to be felt in the movie.
The narration was decent in the first half but the second half just keeps dragging on and on. Trimming of few scenes is absolutely necessary. The music of the movie was strictly average. The mass number Iraga Iraga is catchy. The love thread was well handled although it hardly impacts the storyline. After the movie trailer was launched, one would think about how Allu Arjun as an Army officer impacts the society but the movie turns out to be how Allu Arjun as an Army officer tries to controls his anger. He could well be a police officer in the movie and it wouldn't impact the story even a bit.
The story writer in you is not supposed to be compromised for a director in you and that is where Vakkantam Vamsi has so much to think moving forward. All in all, the movie has a few catchy scenes for the masses but that's not good enough to hold the theaters for a longer duration.
