Ever since Chiranjeevi’s comeback Khaidi No. 150 has took the boxoffice by storm, it gave the Megastar’s fans a hope to see him continue on the silver screen and he has done just that. He now comes up with the period drama Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy pairing with Pan India superstars. The icing on the cake is that Ram Charan is producing it. Now, let’s dive right in and see how this magnum opus from Tollywood pans out.
Majjari Narasimha Reddy is a warrior from the Ooyalawada of Renadu who starts a rebellion of the Indians against the British. What are the obstacles he face in fighting for his country forms the story of the movie.
Chiranjeevi in the role of Narasimha Reddy owns the character like he always. His voice and acting are his main assets and there’s no dearth of both of those in this movie. The main asset of the movie for me is Chiranjeevi’s dialogue delivery. I’ve never seen someone with a voice more commanding than his. In a few frames though, you could clearly see his age getting better of him. Tamannah as Lakshmi is simply amazing throughout the movie. Jagapati babu as Veera reddy does well. Her characterization is too good. Anushka as Jhansi Rani is present for a very short time but her voice over at the start makes a mark. Nayanathara as Siddhamma looks pretty. Not much to do for her from an acting point of view. Kicha Sudeep as Avuku Raju gets a meaty role and delivers. Vijay Sethupathi as Raja Pandi is impressive in his short stint. Niharika doesn’t get much to do.
The movie starts with a strong but short narration of the British atrocities in India from Pawan Kalyan and Anushka(Jhansi Rani)’s narration of Narasimha Reddy’s childhood. The love story of Lakshmi (Tamannah) and Narasimha (Chiranjeevi) is cute and gets a longer screen time than necessary. The pace of the movie for the initial parts is a little slow but halfway through the first half it picks up and there’s no stopping the Megastar Rampage. The pre interval fight block especially gives goosebumps.
The second half starts bang on target with the British trying to take revenge on Narasimha Reddy. The protection of the wall scene and the strategies used are not the ones we’ve seen in Baahubali or a GoT. They are unique. As the British continue to fail getting rid of Narasimha Reddy, he keeps growing his army in the woods to attack them. Sye Raa song is a treat to watch on screen especially the alliance of Lakshmi and Siddhamma in the song.
The narration of Surender Reddy to do this magnum opus is right on the money. The legend of Narasimha Reddy stays local to Renadu for the first half and it grows beyond borders as the movie progresses with Captivating emotions. The cinematography is right up there as well and so are the VFX shots. The Background score definitely amplifies the emotions. The climax definitely makes you emotional. On a whole, don’t miss this emotional ride especially if you are a Chiru fan.
